Wednesday, August 17, 5:30 pm at the spectacular British
Museum.
SNL is pleased to announce that Dr. Ilona Regulski, curator for the
Rosetta Stone and the Egyptian papyrus collection at the British
Museum, will give a fascinating talk on the Rosetta Stone, "The Rosetta Stone: Greek or
Egyptian? Or both?" Dr. Regulski will discuss the
role of the Rosetta Stone in understanding both ancient cultures, but
also ancient writing systems and their relation to language.
The
festivities begin at 5:30 pm in the Clore Education Centre. Note: The
museum closes to the public at 5:30 pm and the museum gates close at
6:00 pm. You
must arrive no later than 6:00 pm to gain entrance into the SNL
Reception.
The
museum is Britain's largest museum and is widely considered to be one
of the world's greatest museums. The permanent collection comprises
over 8 million objects spanning the history of the world's cultures
from the stone tools of early man to twentieth century prints. The
collection includes controversial items including the Elgin Marbles
from the Parthenon in Greece and the Rosetta Stone
from Egypt.
Don't miss this occasion to experience one of the
world's greatest museums and an opportunity to socialize with
colleagues and friends before the SNL meeting commences.
The British Museum is open from 10:00 am to 5:30 pm. Plan to spend the
day or even just an hour before heading downstairs to the East and
West Foyers in the Clore Education Centre.

language acquisition, comprehension, production, and reading take place
in the human brain. Special attention will be paid to language
disorders and the development of computerized tools for their early
diagnosis and treatment.
(2)-Multilingualism and second language learning: The
cognitive and brain mechanisms of language acquisition and processing
in a second language, taking into consideration the age of acquisition,
proficiency and usage. Special attention will be paid to
multilingualism within the school system and to the development of new
educational technologies for second language learning.
(3)- Neurodegeneration, brain damage and healthy aging:
Language and Cognition: Early cognitive and brain markers related to
language for neurodegenerative diseases (Alzheimer, Parkinson); neural
plasticity and language functions through brain stimulation in the
awake patient during surgical brain operations; developing of
computerized diagnostic and training tools for aphasic patients and
neurodegenerative diseases.
