Session Guide
SNL 2021 will be our most action-packed meeting ever. To help you find your way around the program, here’s some information about how our different presentation sessions will be structured.
Keynote Presentations
We will have three Keynote Sessions at the meeting. Each will be a 1-hour plenary session featuring a live presentation from a leading scientist whose research is of interest to the membership of the Society of Neurobiology of Language.
Award Sessions
We will have two Award sessions, which recognize the winners of the SNL 2021 Early Career Award, Dissertation Award, and Distinguished Career Award. These will be plenary sessions featuring live research presentations from each award winner.
Symposia
There will be three Symposium sessions at SNL 2021. Each will be a 2-hour plenary session featuring live research presentations and live discussion. The symposia were selected earlier this year via a competitive process, and each will cover a research theme of interest to members of the Society for the Neurobiology of Language. The number, duration, and positioning of the presentations and the discussion / Q&A section of each session is at the discretion of the Symposium organizers and may vary per session.
Slide Sessions
There will be four Slide Sessions at SNL 2021. Each will be a 90-minute plenary session featuring 4 pre-recorded research presentations lasting 15 minutes. There will be 5 minutes of live Q&A following each presentation. Slide presentations were selected from the abstracts submitted for SNL 2021 and cover a range of topics being researched by members of the Society for the Neurobiology of Language. If you are presenting in a Slide Session at SNL 2021, please see Presenter Instructions for more information on how to prepare for your session.
Slide Slam Sessions
There will be 19 Slide Slam Sessions at SNL 2021. Each will be a 2 or 2.5-hour session, running in parallel with 1-2 other Slide Slam sessions – please check out the list of presentations in advance to decide which Slide Slam Sessions you would like to attend live. Slide slam sessions will comprise up to 20 pre-recorded research presentations plus live Q&A. Sessions will be divided into batches of 5-minute research presentations played back-to-back, followed by a discussion period (e.g. 8 talks followed by 15-minute discussion; 10 talks followed by 20-minute discussion). There will be no Q&A between individual talks – instead, the live discussion period will be open for the audience to ask questions to any of the presenters from the preceding batch of talks. Where possible, Slide Slam presentations have been grouped into sessions according to the similarity in the research topic, and Sandbox Series presentations have been assigned to separate sessions from regular abstracts. If you are presenting in a Slide Slam Session at SNL 2021, please see Presenter Instructions for more information on how to prepare for your session.
